2.5.8. Features of driving of the car with automatic transmission

Functioning by the 4-staged automatic transmission (AT) which is included in a basic equipment of the Infiniti car is controlled by the special electronic module of management (TCM) that is the key to smoothness of switchings and efficiency of return of the power unit.

Below the basic principles of control of the car equipped with AT are stated. See also section Use of the All-wheel Drive Mode devoted to features of driving in the all-wheel drive mode.


Start of motion

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Having started the engine, firmly squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake and, having pressed the push-button switch on the selector lever handle, bring the last out of situation "P" /" N", having switched transmission to the required operating mode ("D", "R", "2" or "1").

    1 — Parking situation
    2 — Neutral situation
    3 — the Pedal of a foot brake is squeezed out
    4 — the Parking brake is cocked

Used on the Infiniti AT cars has such design that the translation of the lever of the selector from situation "P" in any of working provisions at the included ignition is possible only at the squeezed-out pedal of a foot brake. At a key the LOCK turned in situation or taken from the ignition lock a lever conclusion from situation "P" it is not possible.

Before transfer of the lever to provisions "P" or "R" it is necessary to make sure of completeness of the termination of the movement of the vehicle!

At the low level of a charge of the rechargeable battery the lever of the selector can switch in the provision of ASS of the ignition key.

  1. Release parking and foot brakes and gradually begin the movement. In order to avoid breakthroughs at a start of motion do not accelerate the engine idling.


Precautionary measures at the movement

Start of the engine is possible only in provisions "P" or "N" of the lever of the selector. In other provisions of transmission the engine should not be started!

Do not squeeze out the accelerator pedal when translating the lever of the selector of situation "P" or "N" in any of working provisions ("D", "R", "2" or "1"), you hold a pedal of a foot brake squeezed out before end of the moment of switching.

Remember that turns of idling of the cold engine are always slightly higher, than at warmed up — be careful at inclusion of the modes of the movement both to lobbies, and a backing.

Avoid sharp start and pro-slipping of wheels. It is not necessary to accelerate the engine idling when the car costs — it can lead to sudden start-off if the selector is installed in situation "D", "R", "2", "1", or to breakage of the engine if the selector is in situation "N" or "P".

Remember that switching of transmission to a low gear during the movement on a slippery covering is fraught with loss of coupling of wheels with the road and loss of control over management.

It is forbidden to switch the selector to situation "P" or "R" to a full stop of the car!

At the parking, even for a short time, it is necessary to transfer the selector lever to situation "N" and to cock the parking brake.

In case of a car stop on the steep slope it is necessary to squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake (previously having switched the selector to situation "N") to hold the car on the place and to protect transmission from an overheat.

At the parking squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake and when the car finally stops, move the selector to situation "P". Cock the parking brake and release a pedal of a foot brake.

For switching in situation "P" and also when translating the lever of the selector from situation "N" in situation "R", in situation "D" and from situation "D" in situation "2" squeeze out the lock button of situation "R". All other provisions can be included without squeezing of the button.


Provisions of the lever of the selector of ranges of transfers

Situation "P". Always you transfer the lever of the selector of ranges to situation "P" at the parking of the car or start of the engine. To bring the lever of the selector of ranges out of situation "P", it is necessary to squeeze out a brake pedal, previously having released the accelerator pedal.

At the parking of the car on a bias without fail you cock the parking brake, then you transfer the selector lever to situation "P".

In order to avoid breakage of AT you transfer the lever to situation "P" only after a full stop of the car.

Situation "R". Methods of management of the lever of the selector of ranges at its transfer to situation "R" (Backing) from situation "P" are described above, - do not forget to squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake and to press the lock button. (Neutral) you make turning on of the lever in situation "R" from situation "N" only after a full stop of the car.

Situation "N". Use situation "N" (Neutral) at start of the decayed engine on the run of the car and at short stops of the car with the working engine. If you for any reason need to depart from the car, previously transfer the lever of the selector of ranges to situation "P". At a lever conclusion squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake of situation "N".

Situation "D". In this situation the lever of the selector of ranges has to be constantly at the movement of the car in normal road conditions. In the range of "D" automatic gear shifting of the forward course depending on the speed of the car and extent of pressing an accelerator pedal is provided. During the movement of the car you can notice what automatic switchings to the highest transfers occurs later, that is at higher speeds of the movement if the engine of the car is not warmed up up to the normal working temperature yet. It provides more bystry warming up of the engine.

Situation "2". At inclusion of range "2" automatic transmission will constantly work at the second transfer. At a car stop the transmission does not pass to the first transfer. Constant inclusion of the second transfer provides good traction dynamics of the car on rises and a possibility of intensive braking with the engine on abrupt descents. Range "2" is recommended to be included at a start of motion on a slippery paving, and also at the movement on snow. It helps to prevent strong pro-slipping of driving wheels of the car.

For the translation of transmission in situation "2" it is necessary to squeeze out the lock button of situation "D".

You do not make switching in the 2 mode at the movement with the speeds exceeding the listed below values do not accelerate the car above these values at the included 2 mode:

Mode N (2WD AUTO):

95 km/h

Mode N (LOCK):

80 km/h

Mode 4LO:

35 km/h

Situation "1". At inclusion of range "1" automatic transmission will constantly work at the first transfer. This mode is intended for the movement on very steep slopes, deep snow, sand and dirt and also when maximum efficiency from braking is required by the engine.

You do not make switching in the 1 mode at the movement with the speeds exceeding the listed below values do not accelerate the car above these values at the included 1 mode:

Mode N (2WD AUTO):

50 km/h

Mode N (LOCK):

50 km/h

Mode 4LO:

15 km/h


Removal of blocking of switchings


Removal of blocking of switchings of the lever of the selector for its conclusion from situation "P" at the discharged battery

At the low level of a charge of the battery the translation of the selector from situation "P" can be impossible even at the pedal of a foot brake which is squeezed out against the stop and the pressed button on the lever handle.

In case of need blocking can be removed mechanically for what it is necessary to wring out the button of removal of blocking by means of the suitable tool (the lock button on the lever handle also has to be wrung out) (see the illustration Removal of Blocking of Switchings of the Lever of the Selector for its conclusion from situation "P" at the discharged battery). After blocking removal the lever can be transferred to situation "N". In case of difficulties ask for the help specialists of car service.

The refusal of a conclusion of the lever of the selector from situation "P" at the started engine and the squeezed-out pedal of a foot brake, can lead to violation of serviceability of functioning of stoplights!


Automatic switching of transmission to a low gear (Downshift mode)

When overtaking, or for bystry pass of the inclined section of the road press against the stop an accelerator pedal — it will lead to switching to lower second or first transfer, depending on the current high-speed mode of the movement of the car.


Shutdown of the raising transfer (About / D OFF)

Transmission automatically passes every time at a start of motion into the mode of the raising transfer when increase in speed of the movement is followed automatic increase in transfer.

The mechanism of inclusion of the raising transfer begins to work only after warming up of the engine.


At the movement up or down long slopes when "braking" is applied by the engine, should switch off the raising transfer.

Besides, at the long movement at a low speed, or on long smooth rises, transmission can constantly switch between the 3rd transfer and raising, causing feeling of discomfort. In such cases it is also recommended to switch off the raising transfer. When the raising transfer is turned off, on the dashboard the corresponding control lamp of O/D OFF is activated (see the Head of the Cooling system and heating). After traffic conditions are normalized, again include the raising transfer.

In order to avoid increase in fuel consumption the car, it is not necessary to go by high speed with the turned-off raising transfer during long intervals of time.


Emergency operation

After operation of emergency operation of functioning of AT the next inclusion of ignition leads to 8-second activation of a control lamp of O/D OFF in the flashing mode after preliminary continuous burning within 2 seconds. Though the movement of the car in a similar situation remains possible, it is necessary to remember that the range of switching of transmission will be limited to the first three transfers.

Activation of emergency operation happens in extreme situations at excessive pro-slippings of driving wheels or the repeating sharp braking. And violation of serviceability of functioning of electric contours is not an indispensable condition of transition to emergency operation. In a similar situation it is necessary to switch off ignition, to wait about three seconds and again to turn a key in position of ON, the system has to return to the mode of normal functioning, otherwise it is necessary to address on car repair shop for performing diagnostics and necessary recovery repair of AT.
