4.6. Replacement of a belt of the GRM drive

Do not bend and do not overwind a belt!
After removal of a gas-distributing belt do not turn cranked and camshafts in order to avoid damage of internal components of the engine as a result of an entrance of blow of valves about the bottoms of pistons!
Before installation of a belt carefully clear all cogwheels of the GRM drive, having completely removed from them dirt, lubricant and moisture!
Installation of a gas-distributing belt has to be made on the cold engine!


Details of installation of components of the GRM drive


Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Cock the parking brake, prop up back wheels antiretractable boots, then a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props (see the illustration Scheme of an Institution of Props for fixing of the car in the lifted situation). At the corresponding complete set remove protection of a case.
  2. Empty a radiator — try not to allow hits of cooling liquid on driving belts.
  3. Remove a radiator.
  4. Remove the fan of the cooling system and a pulley of the water pump.
  5. Take off belts of the drive of the steering pump, K/V compressor and generator.
  6. Turn out all spark plugs.
  7. Remove the distributor filter.
  8. Remove a basic arm of an intermediate roller of a belt of the drive of the К/В compressor.
  9. Pick up the phone the connecting cover of the gas-distributing mechanism with an air inlet sleeve.
  10. Remove the hose of a cooling path brought to the thermostat.
  1. Turning a bent shaft for a bolt of its pulley, bring the engine into the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression of the piston of the first cylinder.
  1. Turn out a bolt of a pulley of a bent shaft and by means of a suitable stripper dismantle the last.
  2. Remove the top and lower sections of a forward cover of the GRM drive.
  3. Achieve combination of a dot adjusting tag of a cogwheel of the left camshaft with a reciprocal tag on the top section of a back cover of the GRM drive.
  1. Make sure of correctness of combination of an adjusting tag of a cogwheel of a bent shaft with risky on the case of the oil pump.
  1. Temporarily establish into place a bolt of a pulley of a bent shaft, having provided thereby a possibility of a provorachivaniye of the last.
  1. Weaken a nut of a natyazhitel, develop assembly of the last and take off a gas-distributing belt.

  1. Attentively study a condition of the taken-off belt, in case of detection of defects (see an illustration Typical defects of a gear belt of the GRM drive) make its replacement.
  1. Manually check freedom of rotation of a roller of a natyazhitel.
  1. Estimate a condition of a spring of a natyazhitel.
  2. Replace defective components.

Details of installation of a cover of the GRM drive

 

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure that the engine still is in the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression of the piston of the first cylinder.
  1. Establish into place a natyazhitel with a spring.

If turned out a fixing hairpin, then before a vvorachivaniye in the engine block its carving part needs to be greased with the fixing sealant.

  1. By means of a prutkovy key develop a natyazhitel against the stop outside and temporarily tighten a nut of his fixing.

  1. Having tracked correctness of combination of adjusting tags, establish a belt — white lines on a tape of a belt have to be combined with dot adjusting tags on cogwheels distributive and cranked in bulk. Make sure that the belt is put so that the arrow applied on his tape specified from the engine aside (to a forward cover of the GRM drive).

On the Infiniti QX4 models considered in the present manual equipped with the engine of 3.3 l it is used 133 - a zuby gas-distributing belt. At installation between cogwheels of camshafts there have to be 40 teeths of a belt, between wheels of the left distributive and cranked shaft — 43 teeth.

  1. Holding a natyazhitel a prutkovy key, weaken the nut fixing it.

  1. Prutkovy key develop a natyazhitel by 70 — 80 degrees clockwise and again temporarily tighten a nut.

  1. Turn a bent shaft clockwise a minimum on two whole revolutions, having in conclusion brought it into the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression of the piston of the first cylinder.

  1. Press a tape of a belt on the site between a cogwheel of the right camshaft and a roller of a natyazhitel with effort of 98 N (10 kgfs).

  1. Fill an edge of the measuring  probe 0.35 mm thick and  1 2.7 mm wide in a gap between a tape of a belt and a tension roller.

  1. Slowly turning a bent shaft clockwise, completely involve a probe edge under a belt.

The belt at a provorachivaniye of a shaft has to move approximately on 2.5 teeth.

  1. Holding a natyazhitel a prutkovy key, tighten the nut fixing it.
  2. Having slightly developed a bent shaft in any direction, take the probe.
  3. Turn a bent shaft clockwise a minimum on two whole revolutions, having in conclusion brought it into the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression of the piston of the first cylinder.
  4. Establish the top and lower sections of a forward cover of the GRM drive (see an illustration of the Detail of installation of a cover of the GRM drive).


Check of effort of a tension of a belt

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Bring the engine into the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression of the piston of the first cylinder.
  1. Measure belt deflection size on the site in the middle between cogwheels of camshafts when applying to a tape of effort in 98 N (10 kgfs). The required value makes 13 — 15 mm.
