10:19. Checks and adjustments of a steering wheel

- Bring forward wheels of the car into rectilinear situation and perform measurement of size of a free wheeling (side play) of a steering wheel. If the result of measurement exceeds the maximum admissible value makes (35 mm), check durability of a joint and estimate degree of wear of components of a steering column, the steering mechanism, steering drive and a forward suspension bracket.

Centering
|
- For check of correctness of centering of landing of a steering wheel on a shaft of a steering column bring forward wheels into rectilinear situation.
- The angles of installation of forward wheels have to be adjusted correctly (see the Angles of installation of forward wheels), the lath of steering transfer has to hold the central position.
- When performing of all listed above conditions of a spoke of a steering wheel have to settle down strictly horizontally, and deployment of a wheel against the stop in any direction to be made for identical quantity of turns.
- In case of need remove a steering wheel (see Removal and installation of a steering wheel) and modify its situation on a shaft.
- If it is not possible to achieve the required result by reinstallation of a steering wheel (the central situation appears in the middle between shaft vents, release lock-nuts of tips of steering drafts and correct position of the last, having displaced each of two on identical quantity carving rounds in the corresponding direction.

Resistance to rotation
|
- Park the car on the flat horizontal platform with a hard coating.
- Check correctness of a rating of tires.
- Cock the parking brake, then start the engine on single turns and wait for warming up of the GUR hydraulic liquid up to the temperature about 60 — 80 °C.

- Hook on a dynamometer of bezmenny type for a spoke of a steering wheel.

|
- Measure the size of torque of rotation of a steering wheel at deployment it under 360 ° from neutral situation. If the result of measurement exceeds the maximum admissible value (4.1 kgfs), check effort of sliding of a lath of the steering mechanism for check of a condition of its internal components (see Check of effort of resistance to sliding of a lath of the steering mechanism).
